Indication:

Tobirax eye drops and ointment, a bactericidal topical antibiotic is indicated in the treatment of external bacterial conditions of the eye and it’s adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria. Appropriate monitoring of bacterial response to topical antibiotic therapy should accompany the use of Tobirax . Clinical studies have shown Tobramycin to be safe and effective for use in children.

Dosage & Administration:

Eye Ointment: Apply a small amount into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times per day. Slowly close your eyes without blinking. Keep your eyes closed for 1 to 2 minutes. Pregnancy: This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Lactation: Because of the potential for adverse reactions in nursing infants from Tobramycin, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing the infant or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Adverse reactions: The most frequent adverse reactions to topical ocular tobramycin (Tobidex) are hypersensitivity and localized ocular toxicity, including lid itching, swelling and conjunctival erythema. Similar reactions may occur with the topical use of other aminoglycoside antibiotics. The reactions due to the steroid-component are elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) with possible development of glaucoma and infrequent optic nerve damage; posterior subcapsular cataract formation; and delayed wound healing. Overdosage: Clinically apparent signs and symptoms of an overdosage of Tobidex Eye Ointment (punctate keratitis, erythema, increased lacrimation, edema and lid itching) may be similar to adverse reaction effects seen in some patients.
